Coyhaique/Chile

3. Email for all the interested people - Coyhaique/Chile, 11/28/01

Since more or less one month I haven’t written nothing, this is what happened on my "Come join me Tour": Started off with the Santiago youth "Pablo" at the beginning of November to recover a very "German" area in Chile between Valdivia (834 km south of Santiago, went in bus because it’s a bore there..) and Puerto Montt, where you can see more German names, faces and productnames, such as beer than chilenean...

Pablo definetely was the first native I travelled with, so taht I could improve my Spanish during our 11 days trip. He’s 19 and we shared the interests of making a fire to cook and enjoy every night and mornig , the same as sleep without the tent; So in view on landscape it was quite nice but not the "hipe" - but we had best weather; The next weeks it rained. Continously.

In Puerto Montt I waited almost a week for Andres, the first guy I gained by an article that appeared in the travell magazin of the biggest Newspaper; they told about my tour, gave my email address and I received 8 emails from interested people; 5 droped in the meanwhile, but "Andres", 30, Ingeneer from Santiago was the first partner I didn’t select how I "chose" the other people...

Apart from the fact that I only understood 5 % of waht he said - his pronounciation prohibited more - we got along quite good; especially if you face 6 days of almost 24 hours of rain... on the other hand we passed trough an incredible green landscape, the "Carrera Austral". Passed by strange plants with leaves of an diameter of 2 meters equal as by the beach. The tracks next to whole the fisherman scenes are paved by shells - so much they drag out of the sea...

When it started to rain, we diceded to reach Coyhaique our destination by Argentina because there always the sun shines... I forgot the wind in my calculations, so we sat some 500 km in Pickups and just reached Coyhaique. Now the sun shines even here and before the next "Santequino" arrives at 12/17 I hope to find some backpackers, to discover the forests.

Sorry that I can’t show to many picures this time, my solar charger cracked and it rained a lot; if the few are online, I give you a second email.
